This is not to say that you don't have to choose your words wisely and carefully in a face-to-face coaching session, but the beauty of the CI system makes this possible. The first stage of the interactive coaching is, as you know, the My Life process, and I would like to share with you just how incredibly powerful this tool has been for me as a first step with the client. This process has allowed me to cover a great deal of ground with the client in a relatively short period of time and has facilitated an uncovering of many facets of their challenges they are currently facing. This journey of discovery into the client's life gives the coach the ability to understand where the client is currently and where they see themselves being in the future and, therefore, guides the coach to select the most appropriate interventions and tools that will ensure the client makes progress based on their timescales, skills and levels of understanding. As I progress through to the next stages of the coaching programme, I am finding that there is a convergence of information that builds a more complete picture of the clients thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Without the My Life process, this convergence would take longer or, possibly, not happen at all, which means that the client is not experiencing the full benefit of coaching interactively and we, as coaches, have not fulfilled our obligation to have the client's best interests at heart. In summary, the My Life process is, in my opinion, the most critical part of the whole coaching process. It is the time that the coach can develop deep rapport , trust and respect with the client, without which there is no coaching relationship. Steve Scott
